Kitchen and Bath Show Update
Last week I was in Las vegas for the KIBS show. That is the Kitchen and Bath information Show. Its a yearly event which I have attended several times. They have all the latest in kitchen and bath products and what's new in the industry.
Its always exciting to see all of the new products and I think it was especially well attended as there seems to be a move towards "Home Improvement" in the market place.
The show was well attended with over 40,000 people expected to attend!
While I was there over several days, the convention center was "buzzing" like a be hive with people viewing new plumbing fixtures, counter tops, appliances, sinks and everything else that make a kitchen and bath work.
The Kohler booth is always a highlight of the show and it sits central in the convention center. There was a master chef preparing specialities in an elevated kitchen that was then broadcast onto a large screen and it the format like a TV show...people were hovering around waiting to see what he would make and expecting a tasty treat!
The Kohler booth also was featuring new toilets from Japan that are water saving and super stylish for a modern look for the bathroom. Many of the toilets were focus ing on water saving as the "Green" movement applies to all areas of marketing and merchandising.
Of course the faucets are fantastic with the brushed bronze being my favorite of all the fixtures that I viewed.
My favorite item that I saw at the show was a product line called "Cambria USA" which is a solid surface that is used primarily for countertops. Its a look alike for granite and quartz stone and is made from 93 percent quartz. The remainder 7% is a binder that holds the quartz together.
The benefits of this product over real granite vary from the most important one, its NON-POROUS. The products are so beautiful and they are manufactured in the USA. Those aspects make this product super desirable. The price is similar to real stone and the carbon footprint is less that imported stone that sometimes comes from anywhere around the word. I was really impress and plan on using it on my next two remodeling projects. I am currently doing a complete condominium renovation and a new bathroom addition. I will use Cambria for the counter tops in the Kitchen with a tile/stone backsplash and for the bathroom countertops as well.
Since I have been involved in construction in the Eastern Sierra since 1970 I have seen many products throughout the past 4 decades and its nice to see new products that are functional and interesting coming to the market place. I especial like all the practical aspects of this solid surface products. I have samples at my showroom, Sierra Design Studio located at 550 Old Mammoth Rd.
There were other booths at the trade show that were impressive as well. I enjoyed the cabinets that were on display and all the different styles that are currently popular. I carry cabinet lines and they are available through my showroom as well. I have recently partnered with a contractor who has years of experience in kitchen and bath remodeling and we we are going to be focusing on helping homeowners to find the best product and price to upgrade or update their homes and condominiums.
